Amy Sales, LCSW-C

Amy earned a BS Psychology from Frostburg State University and then went on to earn her MSW from the University Of Maryland School Of Social Work in 1991.

Amy has been providing individual, couples, and family therapy over the course of twenty six years. Furthermore, she has worked in a dual diagnosed residential treatment center for both adolescents and adults, hospital based psychiatric unit, managed care and transitioned to Cedar Ridge Counseling Centers, LLC from a lengthy career that spans over twenty years at Johns Hopkins Hospital where she provided supportive and grief counseling to patients and their families with cancer.

While working at Johns Hopkins her passion grew for providing additional support to caregivers and she has written a book, “Walking on Eggshells” for the caregivers, who are the silent heroes throughout their loved one’s journey. This book was written because she witnessed so many missed opportunities to connect with patients that are sick due to fear of saying the wrong thing or just not knowing what to say. Amy is an expert in her field and has been helping patients and their families find their voice of advocate, partner and caregiver.

Amy has been interviewed on both television and radio around the United States to discuss the topic of grief and loss when a person has a life threatening illness. She has been a guest speaker at professional conferences / support groups, and in order to promote self-help she was filmed by a producer of the Today Show for a series related to giving support to the families and caregivers to those who have cancer. This can be located on u-tube (Walking on Eggshells, Amy Sales).

Additionally, the focuses of Amy’s practice include and are not limited to: providing counseling for those that suffer with Depression, Anxiety, Adjustment Disorders, Anger Management, relationship issues, parent/child issues, Grief/Loss, End of Life Issues, and Substance Abuse. Amy’s style of therapy employs a combination of Person Centered Insight, and Cognitive Behavioral Approaches. She works with the adult and adolescent population.
