Erich L. Bonny, LCSW-C

Erich Bonny, LCSW-C completed his bachelors degree in Developmental Psychology and then his Masters in Clinical Social Work at the University of Maryland. His graduate focus was on child and family therapy issues and he is certified as a family specialist in Maryland. He has been in clinical practice for over 30 years and has been aware of the counseling needs in the area as a past president of the Mental Health Association of Carroll County. In his years of experience, he has served in inpatient hospitals (psychiatric and medical) and many outpatient programs where he has provided managerial, training, and therapeutic services.  He was a part of the development of the first Dissociative Disorders unit at Sheppard Pratt hospital and provided supervisory and on site services for a national Employee Assistance Program (EAP).  After several years of private practice development, he was one of the founders of Cedar Ridge Counseling Centers.


Along with his clinical work, Mr. Bonny was educated in imagery techniques.  He was trained by and trained with Dr. Helen Bonny in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM).  He has trained others nationally and internationally in this method and continues to support the international impact of this method through the Association of Music and Imagery.  He has also produced a movie of the historic development of this technique through Dr.Helen Bonny's life.


Mr. Bonny covers a range of therapeutic issues facing adults, children and families.  These include general anxiety disorder concerns along with OCD, Panic Disorder, PTSD, and Trauma survival.  Depressive areas addressed include: Seasonal Affective Disorder; Bipolar Disorder; Major Depression and Dual Diagnosis.  Dream evaluation and GIM approaches are used as indicated.  Services are provided in a personable and supportive manner to approach many life transistion concerns.  Daytime appointments are available in the Eldersburg office.
