Cathy Bonny brings a wide range of skill and experience to her practice at Cedar Ridge Counseling Centers. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, she attended the University of Maryland School of Social Work and graduated with a Master’s in Clinical Social Work. Jobs early in her career included psychiatric social work at Spring Grove State Hospital, Springfield Hospital Center, and Sheppard Pratt Hospital. For approximately fifteen years she was employed by Baltimore City Department of Social Services as a caseworker in Child Protective Services, Foster Care, and a variety of supervisory and administrative positions including Training and Staff Development. In 1990 she left the public sector of social work and joined the private practice group ReEntry Mental Health. After working at ReEntry for approximately 4 years she fulfilled a life long dream and with two other colleagues started Cedar Ridge Counseling Centers which is one of Maryland’s longest running private practice groups which changed ownership in 2011.
Mrs Bonny’s areas of expertise are generally in the area of mood disorders, depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, and childhood trauma. She works with a wide age range from teenage, adult, to seniors. She has seen an increase in anxiety disorders: generalized anxiety, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive behaviors across the age range, likely increased by our high paced, stressful lifestyles. She finds it very encouraging and satisfying to be a part of client’s recovery process. Continuing education training helps her to stay current with different treatment approaches.
Outside of work, Mrs Bonny enjoys spending time with family and friends, she likes to stay active but also loves reading and music.
